WRITING - ‘COMFORT ME - FALCO’S SONG’
Whilst writing “0wl:believe” I conceived of a song for Falco during her dark night of the soul, as she chants the words, “When are you going to comfort me,” This song with lyrics by me and music by Chris Bird was meant to be one of the many media files accessible in the book, but we never made it past the demo stage. I always wanted to work with Rachael Wright, the vocalist on this song and this seemed to fall in place. Perhaps one day, we’ll make it past the demo stage.
I mirrored the syllables in each line/verse, to the next verse, taking my inspiration from Haiku poetry. This is the sad story of Falco and her loss and for me, it needed a certain, standard meter.
comfort me
surreal sky
in spirit’s eye
you can walk through life and not, see a thing
systems break
dealers will take
why work to save a lie, just let it die
when are you…going to…comfort me? (x4)
desert owls
and falcons prey
on the high rocks they watch as, demons wail
boy alive
then he dies
put out to dry by, grey suited spies
when are you…going to…comfort me? (x4)
jackals cry
but spirits fly
you can walk through life and not leave the ground
when are you…going to…comfort me? (x8)
