5.0 out of 5 stars Dystopian tale of vampire priests and corporate interests

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 July 2021Verified Purchase0w1:believe is intended to be the first of three novels set in a dystopian future Bristol (England) in which a group of young friends plot against a totalitarian theocratic-like State dominated by corporate interests. In doing so they tap into a parallel reality – or ‘vision space’ - where they discover abilities to help them subvert the powers that seek to oppress and subjugate them. The storytelling here has echoes of Pullman, Orwell and Dick, but also draws on a disparate range of philosophical and theological ideas and locutions (from Baudrillard to Bonhoeffer). Notable too is the playful immersive approach to form as the reader is periodically directed to the novel’s soundtrack (in the form of a Spotify playlist) and to other online material related to the World of 0w1.
